How I Marketed Fungy

Wow, it's not much, but Fungy is on the popular page!

We are so grateful for the opportunity, and that you guys are playing our game :)

I'm thinking about things that worked for getting people to play it in case any other developers are interested.

I think the most important thing has been having a good design for your page and a good icon. It's the first thing people see, and the deciding factor for wheyher or not people want to play your game. There is a customize option! Use it!

Next, I think it's important to post your game to places that are actually interested. Use the hashtags on twitter, look at subreddits that would like what you are doing.

For Fungy, we posted it on r/pixelart which was very popular since we had cute art. Obviously, indiegames, gamedevscreens, etc.

But don't only post, interact with others. This next part is hard, but you have to genuinely be interested in what other people are doing. You can't just interact with them just so that they interact with you.

Think of it this way, you are all in the same community. You want to support each other, and see how other people are doing! Everyone in the community wins when someone in the community does. Also, it's good to be inspired and to help inspire others. Lift your fellow devs and let them lift you when you need it!

Comment on other people's reddit posts, ask them about their project, share yours, like people's tweets, follow people when you like their stuff, retweet games you like, etc.

I wish I started doing it earlier to have built a group of people who were interested beforehand, but this game was made for my summer research in only a month. There was no time to worry about that. Lesson learned for Themis.

I hope you enjoy this post, I hope you enjoy Fungy, and I hope we can lift each other!
